But I noticed that the 757 flies direct BOS-LAX with lie-flat seats on the 757. How much less of an experience is the "regular" business class?
BOS-LAX would be marketed as United First, regardless of the equipment or other circumstances.

There's no solid promise that a lie-flat 752 actually flies, and since it's a First-marketed route there's no recourse if you fly on a normal aircraft equipped with domestic recliners. However, for a flight next month with a 752 on the schedule, it should be a pretty sure bet you'll get the equipment shown and have a lie-flat.

EWR-LAX would be marketed as United Business. This is not a Polaris-marketed flight, but it would guarantee a lie-flat seat on some equipment (your seat might vary between the pmCO Diamond, pmUA IPTE, or new Polaris), as well as access to the United Club (not Polaris Lounge), and an "enchanced" menu and soft product (it used to be better, but these days I can't keep track of which is worse - domestic catering or p.s. catering).

Personally, I would put next to zero value on any of these extras, and if there is a scheduled 752 next month on BOS-LAX, I would fly nonstop without a second thought. Especially if it were cheaper, and quite likely if it were a little more expensive too.
