This is very insightful feedback, thank you! Had no idea about the regulations in play. Carts are very heavy so such a rule makes lots of sense. I do vaguely seem to remember flap-style disposal in the 72 galleys but could easily be confusing the model. I've also seen full-sized waste trollies with top/front flaps in more recent years on the wide-bodies of a few Asian carriers. This said, collection of plastic cups during taxi was almost a standard practice back in the day so not sure if it was more procedurally lax or just a past equipment advantage. In any case, this is very helpful to know in the current context.
