A National Discount Code Story
Once upon a time in this forum, there was a glorious thread of National discount codes where we collectively kept track of codes that could deliver great discounts. Yes, the age-old argument about using discounts to which you are not entitled still applies, but be that as it may lots of us used corporate codes for significant benefit (then EAN Corporate discovered it and IIRC threatened to take legal action so the thread was killed but thats another story).
From that thread, I found a corporate discount I used for many years. It belonged to a company that I had never heard of other than the name printed on my National confirmations and receipts. One day I noticed that the name of the company had changed -- the discount code was the same but a different name appeared. I didn't think much of it until one day that code just stopped working, as is typically the case with corporate discounts. Then, about 4.5 years ago, I got a new job and joined a large global industrial company who, as it turns out, had been the company that once acquired the company associated with that corporate discount. I would sometimes mention to the people who were still around from the acquired company my use of their code. Unfortunately, my new employer no longer used National and I was pretty much stuck with Hertz. But sometime during the pandemic, when Hertz went into Ch 11 protection, they signed a deal with National and all of a sudden we can book National using our corporate discount code. This week I made my first 2 rentals using the discount, one that I'm actually now entitled to use! I Love it when things go full circle...
