Hi. Currently residing in the QF lounge at LAX for the next 8 hours until the delayed (quelle surprise) BA268 is ready to go. I am connecting on to BUD once at LHR. Current estimated timings assuming an exact 2 hour turnaround at LAX give an arrival time of 1830 for a 1935 dep to BUD.

Obviously there is a chance that all wil go to plan and I’ll make the BUD flight (am HBO) but am considering alternatives.

The delay is a maintenance issue (G-XLEE arrived on 14th early in the morning) so EC261 might kick in.

Can I just check with you knowledgable folks what the situation would be in the following scenarios …..?

1. I make the flight to BUD on 16th as planned - obviously no compensation.

2. I miss the BUD connection. BA will automatically book me a hotel for 16th and rebook on 17th to BUD. As I’ll be 12+ hours late in to BUD compensation will be due. Is the amount based on the distance of last sector (LHR to BUD being 1493km) or the long haul sector distance?

3. I miss the BUD connection but can’t be bothered to carry on the next day (TP run starting and finishing in BUD before avios flight back to LHR). Would compensation still be due and would ORC still apply?
