I lean the other way, the OCI is like your birth certificate. It should never need to expire as long as the requirement to link it to your latest passport is enforced.
+1 As long as the current passport number is updated on the OCI website all is fine. The OCI booklet fits snugly in my German passport and all is good. BTW, the current OCI card is a machine readable ICAO document. The PIO-OCI conversion is mostly complete.
