When I checked in the First Wing a couple of weeks back for a Y class flight to Zurich I asked if, as it was my birthday, I would get a birthday present of an upgrade from BA. The check-in agent said that sadly that sort of thing was stopped many years ago (and we together mused about how flying is not what it used to be!). So no upgrade. But imagine my surprise when some champagne arrived for myself and Mrs JSM8 to our lowly seats behind the curtain. And there was a birthday card signed by the flight crew and CSM too. I must try and fly on my birthday more often!! Well done to the crew on BA 710 that morning
