1) Book a dummy ticket for my son on United metal for around $1,200.
2) Wait > 24 hours and cancel the ticket. The $1,200 Travel Bank credit gets refunded as Future Flight Credit (FFC).
3) Use the $1,200 FFC + extra cash to book the ANA flight.
Is it as simple as that? My son is 2 years old. Does anyone know if it will any problem going through the steps outlined above? I have a ticket already on the ANA flight so if everything goes well, I will call up ANA to attach his ticket to mines. But I'm not certain if United's system will throw a fit if I try to purchase a solo ticket for a 2 year old.
Or do 1) and then “change flight” right afterwards and pay difference (worked for me).
