Hello, trying to book United Basic Economy and plan to pay for seat assignments and checked-in bags.

If I pay for the incidentals at the time of booking, will they bill as separate items on Amex so Amex will credit the incidentals?

Or do I need to pay for the flights first, then add the seat/checked bags later in order to get the incidentals billed separately?
