Your company's event coordinator (by whatever title they may go by) is likely making a ton of points by having all the rooms centrally billed. Net, they are disincentivized to having each attendee pay for the own rooms and thereby getting the points themselves.
Another explanation is that the contract negotiated, in return for a lower price, excludes nights and points.
