Availability of pyjamas is not a function of the airframe, so these should be available assuming Qatar classify this flight as a night flight.
Whilst the old 2-2-2 777 seats do not have much in the way of privacy, what they do have is plenty of space, and no cubby hole to constrain your feet. You basically have a full 6' between you and the seat in front. Some of the forum members prefer these.
Getting a notification of changes with Qatar really is a lottery that rarely pays out. It's been suggested that it's a function of the team at your origin and whether they crank the handle on the email engine, but whatever it is, it's not effective and basically broken.
First QR flight I ever took was LAX-DOH on the 2-2-2. Was so amazed with the service and the midnight lamb slider that I didn't mind the 2-2-2 configuration. I have flown the suites since and while they are nice, I do think you have much more space on the 2-2-2... I would take the 2-2-2 over any US domestic business class anyday.
