Can I book an award travel 4 months or more away to keep my alaska airlines miles from expiring within 2 weeks? I will cancel it later and have award re-deposited in account. Would this work to start my 2 years again?

If not, if i do the mileage dining, will i receive the milesright away?
Or is it better I do the shopping portal for receiving miles right away?
