You cannot open a Sapphire Preferred while holding a Sapphire Reserve.
  1. Do not close the Reserve account.
  2. Downgrade Reserve to any Freedom card. You can do this even if you already have the same Freedom type. This automatically preserves the UR balance.
  3. Wait four days.
  4. Apply for Sapphire Preferred.
  5. Combine points from Freedom to Sapphire Preferred.
