Does AA really not know if customers have taken flights? Does AA really have to ask people if they’ve taken flights? AA can’t look at a ticket number or confirmation code and determine if the ticket has been used?
Or was this simply an incompetent agent?
Sometimes I feel like some agents have access to the info but they're lazy. Yesterday I had to cancel a trip due to IRROPS and I asked the agent on the phone what the value of my credit would be, she replied "whatever you paid for the ticket" and tried to leave it at that, I pushed her for the info and she typed away for almost a minute and was able to give me the answer. Probably due to AA's stone-age IT systems.
