So I had about an hour to kill before I needed to catch my next flight.

I for the life of me could not remember where the lounge was in Calgary, so in all fairness I spent the first 15 minutes trying to find it.

It was not too busy and I settled in for some french toast and orange juice.

I wanted to stretch my legs so left the lounge a bit early to start making my way to the gate. Calgary is a beautiful airport.

My ride to Toronto today:

I arrived at the gate as boarding group one was already started. Its nice when you can walk right up and onto the airplane.

I like that Air Canada treats intra Canada travel on widebodies as their signature service. Its a nice touch.

Flight #1
YYC - YYZ
Boeing 777-300ER
Stated Departure Time: 1030
Actual Departure Time: 1034
Stated Arrival Time: 1609
Actual Arrival Time: 1621

I do love the seat on this aircraft.

A bottle of water, blanket, pillow and noise cancelling headphones were waiting at the seat.

Boarding was quick and the doors were closed up before the stated departure time. A slightly longer than planned trip to the de-icing pad and we were up and on our way for the 3 hour flight to Toronto.

The wine selection on todays signature service

And todays meal choices. 3 of the 4 sounded good to me. I am not a fan of cooked salmon.

The napkin is always a nice touch

Warmed nuts and a Perrier to start

The salad was good but the salmon was lacking something. It needed a condiment of some kind. There was so much salmon. I ate a lot of it and there was still a bunch left on the plate. I would have preferred half the salmon and maybe a spicy mayo or horseradish cream. The warmed bun was really good. It was the first thing I ate and once I started I couldnt stop.

Here is where things start to go wrong. On paper the beef sounded quite good. It was not. The sauce tasted burnt, watery, bland and weird all at the same time. The beef was cooked well. Fell apart. And the potatoes were good. But all in all this was not a good meal. I should have went with my gut and gotten the pasta dish. I have had that a few times and it is always good.

The cheesecake however was very very good. I could have eaten three more of them. It was a subtle blueberry flavour but really worked well. They should sell this stuff in stores.

I ended up watching a few movies and then putting music on and closing my eyes. Overall it was a decent flight and at just over 3 hours it went by very quickly.

I was in the first 15 off of the plane and with carry on only made my way out to the car rental place.

Okay, bit of a story now. Early in 2022 I rented a car from Hertz in Toronto. It was a pice of junk. I have status with Hertz and generally expect a much better car. I was in Poland last month and got upgraded to a C Class. When the inevitable survey came I was very frank about my experience. I received an email back informing me that Hertz at Toronto airport would take care of me on my next rental.

Fast forward to 2023 and I emailed the same person to say I was renting again. I was assured that I would be taken care of. So imagine my shock when I get a 2021 Toyota Corolla with 95 000 KM on it with a broken radio. I think it might be time to call it quits with Hertz.

Next up, Toronto to Edmonton onboard an Airbus A330 in Business class. What you say, a widebody to Edmonton? You heard it right!
