Advice please on a delay and missed connection
A friend of mine, for whom I booked the ticket, was meant to travel on Friday JAX-PHL-LHR-AMM. The first two flights were on AA metal, the last on BA, on a 125/BA ticket stock. When he went to JAX to check in, it became plain there was a serious flight delay that would cause him to miss the flight to AMM, where he was meant to have a very important meeting on Sunday morning.
The AA staff appeared pretty hopeless at JAX and were shrugging their shoulders about what to do. He discovered that he if could make the short hop to ATL he could get on BA226 back to LHR and still connect in time (and mercifully he was on hand luggage only). After half an hour of faff, they got him an economy seat ATL/LHR, despite him having booked and paid for Business and there being a seat free in that cabin. But the refused to rebook him on the necessary DL flight JAX/ATL, and he ended up having to buy a $500 ticket to make that journey.
And then, at ATL, it turned out the BA flight was heavily delayed. He was at least able to use that time to call the Gold Line, which then called AA, voided his economy ticket and reissued him a business class ticket. That was the good news. But the plane took off over two hours late... and then sat on the tarmac at LHR for about an hour, while the flight to AMM departed. So he never got to Jordan, and gave up and went home. He does not want to travel to AMM now - he was going for a specific business meeting, and he missed it.
I'd be fascinated to know from those wiser than me on here what he should be expecting or demanding from BA by way of refund and/or compensation. Surely BA must pay the DL ticket to ATL, and also refund the AMM sector (whatever they deem that to be worth). Given that they caused him not ever to get to AMM, is he entitled to EU260 for arriving so late into LHR (or for never arriving into Jordan)?
TIA, folks - very grateful for your thoughts.
