My partner and I booked JAL J via AS miles, partner has OW status and I do not. They are able to see more seat availability than I am, is it possible to link our reservations so we can select seats together? They’re able to select mini cabin seats as well as window seats but they show as blocked for me.
I am pretty sure there is no way to link the reservations such that you would be able to select seats reserved for a higher status level than you hold. If you both were on the same reservation together then it probably would work, but you would have had to book together for this to happen. There is no way to combine reservations once booked, they will always be separate.
The other possibility is to have your partner with higher status call JAL and request that you be seated with them as their companion. This would work at some airlines, at least if the status person held status on the operating airline, not sure if it would work in your situation but it is the only chance you have to do it now with separate bookings so if you cannot book together then this is your only option for now. If the blocked seats stay unoccupied until check-in you may be able to select them at check-in, and you should be able to get an airport agent on day of travel assign you any currently unoccupied seat.
