Hotel lodging is certainly not a benefit. It's only provided when they have to stay away from their base. That's just a business expense and makes them whole for having to leave their home for work.

Technically personal flying isn't a benefit either. It's not covered by the negotiated agreements and it can be pulled by the airline any time. It's true that the airlines use it during hiring and it can be a big draw. But it's not contractually agreed.

This is a heavily unionized industry so if any of the terms of the employment seem poor you have to assume the union decided to accept those terms in order to get something more favourable in another area that they considered more important. Likewise if any of the terms seem generous you have to imagine the airline agreed to those generous terms because there was something else that would cost them more.
