Seems they are not bothered about someone with hand luggage only who may have inadvertently exceeded their DF Limits.
At the end of the month I am flying from BCN to EDI via LHR with a 1 Hour 20 Minute interval between arriving and departing. As there are no smoking facilities in T5 I normally exit the Airport for a quick burn and go back through 1st Wing. Just a bit worried if things are tight and I opt for the external option they will claim it's my fault for not using the internal one if I get held up and miss the flight.?
Last week I saw BF doing some searches in EDI domestic, the customer concerned looked rather unhappy. One of the reasons why the carousels were brought inside was to strengthen customs protocols, as well as the risk of theft.
The usual guideline that some of us give, upthread, is that if you have under an hour before the advertised next departure, you are best to go via Flight Connections, for the reasons you mention, even though it's probably slower (less so in the evening though). I'm told that actually it shouldn't matter which way you go, but if you miss conformance in Flight Connections - which can sometimes have a timing less than 35 minutes - then they can't just leave you stranded there, you're going to have to be accommodated, whereas in the First Wing they may say "well 14 people from your flight have made it through Flight Connections, so what happened to you?" But if you have more than an hour at this point, particularly if the e-gates are moving slickly, then you best go via landside.
