Most people here would advise never to book a flight based on the aircraft type, and I agree with that. The 777 is not all bad, in fact most have been updated to the latest interiors with the latest seats and IFE.

Out of interest which class are you booked in?
Thanks for the feedback. I'm booked in WTP with a family of 4. My hope for a last min upgauge is also driven by the fact that I want to secure two pairs of seats on the sides & the A350 has an additional two rows of seats which I hoped would increase my chances to snag these for free during online check in. I don't know if BA has a policy of seating families together but that would most likely involve a middle row of 4 seats. Not ideal but I won't pay 350€ to reserve 4 seats on top of the ticket price...
