Pre-COVID, I got to Old Ebbitt several times a year. Unfortunately, food and service were way off in 2022. Hoping 2023 sees some improvement.
lamphs Thank You! Yes, the office was incredible! We had an escort and passed by Capitol Police just to get in. But once in, wow! The Old Ebbitt is still a hit or miss. My meal was wonderful, Mrs. Glasman's, not so much.

nequine Thank You! We have known him long before politics. He is still humble and just an all-around good guy.
What you see and hear on the news, TV, ect. is him just doing his job, which he does very well based upon his latest appointment.

Did Kevin give you any insights during the tour as to where he was hiding on January 6th? It would have been cool to hear his and Marjorie's recount of their actions from that day. Fascinating living history.
You pic from DCA reminds me that I always find it slightly amusing that the only two countries that regularly have flags displayed that are the size of small houses are the USA and China.
Newt and his current wife sat in front of me on a KOA - SFO flight a few years ago. I remember being amazed at how much he was doting on her. It made my gf at the time feel jealous!
travelinmanS Thank You. I enjoy the alternative reports but it looks like I have a caviar report coming soon. The speaker said he and his staff was working the members very hard to get those last few votes, and as we all know now, he was successful on the 7th.

You should have been doting your gf, she just might have been your wife today, lol.

The opening of the call offering to attend the party reminds me of the time I got invited to a major transport conference just because I happened to be friends with one of the organisers
IJN Harekaze Thank You!! The library was no doubt, one of the highlights of the trip. Its amazing!
Interesting report. I bet it's the first and last MTG pic in a FT TR unless someone is posting about a tour of Crossfits and gun stores here in North Georgia

pjs Thank You. I'm not going to take that bet.

enviroian Thanks, but I will pass on that bet.
[QUOTE=gaobest;35066255]Great TR. One relative used to teach at the army college with Newt awhile ago. Or he did something where he and newt were friendly colleagues.
gaobest Thank You! Newt in his day was certainly a character. We are very happy that we were able to send time with him and here a few stories.

We went back to Ebbits one evening and hung out at the bar. We had a few and had a little corner area of the bar to ourselves. It is an amazing location right by the White House and Lafayette Park. A lot of fun.
How cool to know the actual Speaker of the House of the US! Thanks for posting.
bitterproffit Thank You! and yes the library was amazing! Old Ebbitts as they say is a must. And it's been pretty cool for our little California Town.

JFKSYD2004 Thank You so much! I only spoke with MTG for little bit so I can't answer your question.

I think that regardless of one's political leanings, it is really neat to take a glimpse into the inner workings of the institution of government. These same things occur regardless of who is in what office and it's pretty cool to see the buildings, and sometimes just have a casual chat with leaders.
My best friend from high school has been in the DC realm for the 20 years or so since we finished, starting as a congressional intern from our home state, went to work on Ways & Means, was a Senator's policy director, now is in the "private" sector part of the circus. When I visit, we usually grab a meal at Old Ebbits... truly a fascinating crowd there, especially with someone who recognizes folks by face that many may possibly know the names.
JAXPax Thank you! You obviously get it. It is all about the trip report and the experience. Politics aside, even with my TR title.
