So I’ve already qualified for 2024 Diamond. I took advantage of the new 2024 Choice Benefit to award 2 people with Gold status. We have 3 kids so by gifting 1 kid and my wife we will be able to split up PNRs and be able to standby for comp upgrades as a family (not that I have expectations of clearing but we are non-hub based and I did have 100% upgrade success last year to and from home airport.

Another hidden perk to this double gifting is since it’s a 2024 choice benefit, it is good for 2 years (until Jan 2025). (I get not many people qualify this early in the year for DM so it’s a bit of a rare case)

Anyhoo…today I flew YYZ-ATL with just my 8 year old. He had his Gold status. It caught the eye of the agent at checkin. She personally thanked him for being such a loyal Delta flyer at such a young age. She then commented to me he was by far the youngest Elite she had ever seen. It gave him a big smile.

Then at the gate, a red coat was scanning BPs and as soon as he scanned my son’s and he saw the Gold status, he did a double take and held up the line to tell my son the same thing as the other agent. It was sweet and comical all at the same time.

We sit down in first and the FA does the same thing!

Funny side note…none them mentioned a thing about my Diamond status (which is fine wirh me)!

Anyhoo…the whole thing amused me. Now I need to try to ensure this kid grows up to be a humble and non-entitled future Flyertalker!!
