Any other thoughts or options? I am going to have to book before the 25th, so I have to move on this.

French Polynesia would still be totally worth it even if you can't stay in an overwater bungalow. But maybe you could check the rates for the OWB in Moorea and do it for a couple of days just to experience it? We stayed at both hotels for our honeymoon in July 2003 and we couldn't have been happier. We did stay in OWB's but only because we were upgraded due to platinum status.
