Although I do not have any personal experience, anything at the airport is going to be overpriced.
If you can survive until you get to your accommodation, all the networks will post out a free SIM card, order it about 1 week before you arrive. If staying at a hotel put your name and booking ref and maybe arrival date on the address. Otherwise any supermarket has the SIMs available for around £1 to purchase then you choose your service online.
I have to admit, as I'm a 3 customer on a legacy contract that still includes Go Roam, I also thought this was the case - but having checked actually 3 give PAYG customers a better deal that contract ones because currently all PAYG sims include Go Roam - so not just the EU, but many other countries worldwide as well.
