Not sure which hotel you're referencing, but I've checked in at the IC on Howard Street at 12pm or so a couple of times (after arriving into SFO after 10am from JFK). May or may not prevent you getting a decent room upgrade though if those rooms are available as of yet?

Just received a response directly from the hotel. The fee to add lounge access to a reservation is $70 per person nightly plus tax.
If I had to pay that, I would spend the entire day in there until I was paralytic just to get my money's worth
