As for the concierge, I simply provided four options where I couldn't attempt to book online my self. They failed to even respond until I called them, and only sent back curt responses after that. The RC Kyoto on the other hand has been a pleasure to deal with and are much more forthcoming with quality alternatives. They won't book anything outside of our stay with them sadly
Yeah I mean, best to lower your expectations if you're looking to book extremely competitive reservations a couple of weeks out during the most crowded tourist season of the year. There's still pockets of availability for great restaurants here and there - had fantastic meals at Kiyama and Hassun in Kyoto (which are still fairly available throughout April / May) and dinner at Omino in Tokyo. Sushi-wise you might have to settle with something like a Ginza Iwa at this point, if they're even available.
