They also claimed I can call NY E-ZPass to have them override the registration to another account (i.e. they will remove the plate from the other account and put it on mine) because another renter likely registered it, but I still think it is Hertz/PlatePass who's registering these vehicles and that E-ZPass might not be able to override that.
I have received several waivers over the years from Platepass after demonstrating to them that the personal transponder was with me in the rental vehicle and successfully read at other toll facilities.
