TAP does check that people in the emergency row are capable of operating the door and following instructions in English or Portuguese. The door weighs somewhere in the area of 20 kgs and you may need to carry it over your head to get it out of the doorway. I have seen TAP move people.

Having said that, the Comfort row seating pitch is one of the better ones out there, better than some airlines' premium economy, so unless you are getting towards 2 metres tall you should be OK. If not then look at the Executive class fares. Note also that people naturally gravitate towards the front of the cabin, so the rows nearer to main economy may allow a spare seat in your row. I would still choose 2 seats together.
