Air France used to run an all-Y small Airbus to Baku, and an airline called Privat Air did oil services for legacy carriers - usually with IAH at one end of the route. I think they even did Stavanger NYC(?). I talked to them at one point as they wanted to do ABZ-US, but then their business model collapsed.
I now do AirAstana...... Atyrau-Amsterdam..... AirAstana have the route nicely locked down. Don't let other international carriers in, there's a great non-stop service from Aktau to London, which is an hours flight from here, but no they will not put a decent connection in, when they have the Atyrau service. Economy return is 1200-2000 quid

While in Equatorial Guinea there was also a weekly non-stop from Malabo to IAH in a DC10. I caught it couple of times over to IAH, 13hrs & usually empty (well if you count 6 passengers as empty)
