Do not simply let it expire. You will start all over, and lose out on Precheck during application processing time.
Note, your next expiration date doesn't change, regardless if apply 364 days or 1 day before expiration.
So if, bbodb3, you renew and are only conditionally approved, don't bother scheduling an interview for at least 18 months after conditional approval. Most likely, your conditional approval will be converted to full approval without an interview during that time.
