The bus situation is relatively new in the scheme of things at MUC.

During the US Airways Star Alliance years, the flight (then to PHL) departed from one of the ends of Terminal 2, with other US-bound flights. It was a nice experience, with excellent LH lounges, reliably smooth security/passport control, and seamless connections to LH flights. I miss those days.

After US Airways left Star Alliance in preparation for the AA merger, the flight was unceremoniously kicked over to the older (and much less nice) T1. The only lounge available there was a very cramped and tired BA lounge, but at least the flight boarded from a regular gate -- for a time.

A few years ago, due to space issues and in preparation for expansion, all US flights out of Terminal 1 were forced into a temporary-looking structure that serves as a bus terminal. I remember the transition well, because at the beginning, the roof of that brand new structure leaked when it rained! The only saving grace is that the old BA lounge was replaced by a very nice, two floor contract lounge.

I'm very much looking forward to future improvements in the gate situation in Terminal 1.
