We just burned a Cat1-7 at Alila Marea, it filled in when we decided to start a trip one day early and didn’t want to impact our TSU at PH Aviara. It worked out well with the Thursday before a holiday weekend being less crowded. We received a complimentary upgrade to the oceanfront suite and had a great trip, but we didn’t go out of our way to stay here, and one night worked perfectly for our needs. There is no way we would have paid the $1100 cash for standard room nor the $2500 price on the suite, so those numbers are somewhat tangential to the redemption. Given the limited access to ~1 certificate per year and impact to TSU; we will do our best to find value that fits but won’t go out of way to use them. If we didn’t have travel might have used for 1 night staycation nearby or been happy converting to 20,000 points. Any of those can work and I don’t think it is worth stressing over if I can’t maximize it next time.
