After a little push back from me following my own search for standard suites, the front desk have been giving me nice suites with their own dining area, a living room area and a bedroom area.
I've never been given a suite here in at least half a dozen stays. I don't find the base rooms appealing at all. They did a very superficial renovation a few years back that didn't really help much - pretty much every room I've been assigned has had some kind of hardware issue (last time it was the tv, this time it was the shower doors). Apart from GH SFO, the competition at SFO is pretty underwhelming and I'd still take this place over the Marriott for example but that's really not saying much.
