Chase UA Explorer, open for three years, $3k, $4k, and $13k in charges in previous years. Told CSR that I was considering cancelling it due to the annual fee and because I have another UA card without AF. He immediately offered a statement credit of $100 to cover the fee if I agreed to keep the account open. I agreed. Super painless and quick experience.
Today I received an email from United, to the email address on file with United (different from email associated with my Chase account) thanking me for my loyalty as a cardholder and referencing the $100 credit I received. I wonder if UA is funding the retention offer. That might explain why the Chase rep immediately offered it.
