As for Hertz, I have never had any problems with them. I am just not willing to pay the extra $20-50 a day that they usually charge over Budget/Dollar/Alamo.
Let's see -- pay an extra $20 to $50 or get dinged $500. You could rent for 10 to 25 days at the extra cost and come out ahead. I rarely find the cost more than $5 to $20 over Budget. Enterprise can be a better deal but be sure you are on a 24 hour not calendar day plan.
