Another little news about Shinkansen.

Back in Oct. 31 after 2022 second quarter stockholders meeting, the president of JR Tokai met with the press. During the meeting with the press, president of JR Tokai said that they are considering a class above Green Car for Tokaido Shinkansen. The president of JR Tokai did not elaborate anything further, and it is still under consideration, so it is not the finalized decision.

Currently JR East has Gran Class, which is above Green Car, on select Tohoku, Jyoetsu, and Hokuriku Shinkansen trains (Tokyo - Shin Hakodate Hokuto/Niigata/Kanazawa). Tokyo - Shin Osaka - Hakata portion of Shinkansen has Green Car as a highest class and does not have Gran Class.

During the bubble era, Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen (Tokyo - Shin Osaka - Hakata) had a private room Green Car seat, which was above regular Green Car. The private room Green Car on Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen (Tokyo - Shin Osaka - Hakata) ended in 2003. One of the reasons given was that there was demand for the private room Green Car in Tokaido Shinkansen (Tokyo - Shin Osaka) portion but there was not enough demand for the private room Green Car in Sanyo Shinkansen (Shin Osaka - Hakata). The private Green Car was often empty in Sanyo Shinkansen (Shin Osaka - Hakata).

The Private Green car of Shinkansen back in bubble era.

P.S.
Information provided during the stockholders meeting showed that JR Tokai's total revenue from rail transport during the second quarter of 2022 was 483 billion yen. Out of that, the revenue from Tokaido Shinkansen (Tokyo - Shin Osaka) was 443.5 billion yen. Yes, Tokaido Shinkansen consisted of 91.8% of the revenue JR Tokai had form rail transport.
