If you cancel within 24 hours won’t you automatically get a refund - and if you cancel after 24 hours won’t you get travel credit? I don’t understand why you see a need to cancel within 24 hours - in fact it seems to defeat the purpose of your scheme (I mean plan).
The goal is ultimately to pay for a flight using travel credits and pay the remaining portion of the fare with Chase UR. Unfortunately there's not really a way (that I know of) to book through the Chase portal and pay part of the ticket price with airline travel credit.
If I cancel the flight from the Chase portal within 24 hours, yes I will just get my UR back. But normally if you cancel from the airline side you have the option of refund to original payment or to get the fare back as travel credits.
