Sighhhh…. Not sure when was the last time you checked out the market, St. Regis Florence charged $1800 for a 300sf room facing a side street, Park Hyatt Paris charged $1700 for a 350sf room looking into somebody’s living room and the list just go on and on ….. That’s just the market for high end 5 star urban hotels. You may think they are way overpriced compared to the villa you got in Maldives with big ocean view and 24 hours on call butlers, but it is what it is and there are plenty of demand for them. Anyway, don’t stay there if you don’t think you are getting your money’s worth. There are plenty of good and nice hotels in Kyoto costing much less.
