Thanks, atflyer. Indeed it will be very difficult to dodge and in fact KLM sent the passengers and email telling them how to claim compensation (so good on KLM). My friends finally arrived home this morning. Now I can spend a lot of time making fun of their "ordeal" watching the SXM Regatta for four days in a nice hotel (such first world problems).
