The only AI we'd stayed at before was Breathless Cabo and didn't really like it. Had a short trip to Andaz Mayakoba booked and they were sold out the first night of our trip. Searched online and didn't see any big events so figured it was a large group event and some rooms would eventually get released. Turns out I completely missed they were hosting a LIV golf tournament. Thanks to bgriff's excellent review felt comfortable booking SIM the first night (then felt 1 night would be a hassle so booked 2). I can't offer much more except maybe some rambling thoughts:

I feel like a jerk leaving a book or something on a prime pool or beach chair early in the morning only to use it much later in the day. Without doing that most chairs we would want were already 'reserved' on the regular SM side. Had no problem getting a cabana on demand at Impression's rooftop or beach side pools. Really liked the Cielo food on the rooftop.

Favorite bartenders and liquor selection was at the Impression Lobby bar. A lot of bars don't have cocktail menus but both the day and night bartenders in the lobby bar seemed to enjoy inventing drinks, just tell them what you like and they have some good ingredients at their disposal. Spotted some bottles there that I didn't notice at other bars, such as: Macallan 12 year, Ron Zacapa 12 year (and the 23 year blend), Don Julio (not sure if it was resposado or anejo), Vodka (Belvedere, Ketel One, Grey Goose). I don't know much about mezcal but Jesus was incredibly knowledgeable. I went with his favorite mezcal. He then listed the fruit choices they can use with a mezcalita. I asked which fruit pairs best with his favorite mezcal. He was very politely offended that it's best by itself and he was right, it was great. Wasn't wearing my glasses so couldn't read the name but thought I'd remember the shape of the bottle and label, unfortunately CUN duty free didn't seem to have it.

Beach is nearly non-existent.

Never got bad service. Everyone seems to try hard, but quite often had to ask 2 or 3 times for something simple like a water. Asked for an orange juice to go at breakfast and the waiter hesitated and then said we would have to ask our butler. Stack of plastic cups were on the bar and carafes or OJ just inside the door to the indoor portion of the restaurant. Later spotted the same carafes next to the lobby bar. The green juice was really good too (cactus, kale and a few other ingredients).

The coffee shop menu doesn't list matcha but they do have it. Didn't watch them make it, but instead of one teaspoon they must have used 4 or 5 and not whisked at all. We asked for another cup of steamed milk and an empty cup. Tried to turn 2 matcha lattes into 4. They ran out of mini honey jars and only had a bad honey syrup. (Should have brought extra honeys from beachside breakfast). Even after all that they were still way too strong.

I'd heard the sauna/steam room part of the spa was free for Globalists. Our check-in staff hadn't heard of that. The tablet in the room lists the hydrotherapy day pass as $85. The spa said it's $35 and valid all day. We really enjoyed it and it's all co-ed. Almost always an attendant giving a face cloth that had been soaking in ice cubes before entering the sauna or steam room. Ice cold plunge pool just outside. I'm usually not impressed with any other water treatment areas but they had some really powerful ones for different body parts that we used more than once.
