I don't think this delay will rise to the level of APPR (touch wood, maybe we'll only be an hour or so late to OGG), so this is more amusing than anything. But yes, I fully expect them to try to lie, cheat, and steal their way out of compensation at every turn, just like AC and every other airline does.
