I had a recent stay here. I redeemed 66,000 points for 4 nights. As my first visit to CDMX, I liked the Condesa neighborhood, but I wasn't blown away by the hotel. It was nice, but there were some new hotel teething problems, and I don't really see what's supposed to make this hotel stand out.
The layout is a little strange. The hotel is in the "i421 complex" which also houses the Mondrian and a few restaurants. There's a desk for the Andaz on the ground level, but basically only the concierge is there. You go up the pink escalators to the second level and wrap around a labyrinth of wood paneling to find the front desk and Derba, the café. Andaz makes note of Derba and Cabuya, the rooftop bar/restaurant, but makes no mention of the Mondrian's restaurants or the one in the atrium.
The room was nice. It was not loud at all despite what those Google reviews said. The room is one of those weird ones where there's no separation between the bathroom and the sleeping area, so you better be comfortable with your travel companion. The mirror can slide around for some reason. The minibar had free water and soda, but the booze and snacks were charged. The Nespresso machine was a nice feature.
Our flights were delayed, so we tried to go to Cabuya for dinner the first night at 10:30. The kitchen was already closed. We went back to the room and ordered room service, but it took more than an hour to arrive. We went to Cabuya another night for dinner. The menu is on this ridiculous QR code carved into a wood block that wouldn't scan on my phone. My travel companion ordered a salmon dish medium, but it came back very, very, very rare bordering raw in the middle. When he pointed it out to him, the waiter then argued with him about what medium was. I'm not skittish about rare fish, but that salmon was not cooked properly. I'd avoid the rooftop for anything other than drinks. I didn't think Derba was anything worth writing home about either. There are so many great restaurants in that neighborhood that it's not worth bothering with mediocre hotel restaurant shenanigans. Azul Condesa and Merotoro were our favorites nearby.
I've never stayed at an Andaz before, but I don't see what made this unique at all? They sent us a questionnaire about a week prior to "personalize" our stay, but they didn't really do anything with that information either. I'm relatively hotel brand agnostic, and if I didn't have so many points to burn, I would have been tempted to book the Mondrian instead, which was going at a cash rate of ~$120/night less than the Andaz for our dates.
