And perhaps there is a distinction here based on where one frequently stays. In the United States, a Marriott platinum will infrequently be upgraded at all, much less to a hotels best available room.

Additionally, your post seems to misunderstand the difference between what one should reasonably expect from Marriott based on experiences with properties, and how, if we ran the world, Marriott properties would treat elite guests. It is not an "apology" for Marriott to say that one should expect properties not to go above and beyond what they are required to do under a stingy interpretation of the T&Cs. If anything, it is an indictment of Marriott. But it is what one should expect at this point.
Are you implying Marriott engage in false advertisement?


If you read my post, you will see that my expectation is based on what Marriott advertised and they wrote on the t&c.
We’ll do our best to upgrade your room (including Select Suites), based on availability upon arrival.
And watered it down straight away with :
Upgrades are subject to availability identified by each hotel and limited to your personal guest room

And from their own t&c

Complimentary Enhanced Room Upgrade for Platinum Elite Members. Platinum Elite Members and above receive a complimentary upgrade to the best available room, subject to availability on the day of arrival, for the entire length of stay. Complimentary upgrade includes suites, rooms with desirable views, rooms on high floors, corner rooms, rooms with special amenities or rooms on Executive Floors. At The Ritz-Carlton, suites are only included for Titanium Elite and Ambassador Elite Members and rooms with direct Club access are excluded. Enhanced Room Upgrades are subject to availability and are identified by each Participating Property. The Complimentary Enhanced Room Upgrade for Platinum Elite Members and above is available at all Participating Brands except at Marriott Vacation Club, Marriott Grand Residence Club, Sheraton Vacation Club, Westin Vacation Club, Aloft, Element, The Phoenician Residences, a Luxury Collection Residence Club, Scottsdale, and Ritz-Carlton Reserve.

Based on this, it is very clear that if a better room/suites up to standard suite available during the whole duration of the stay, the elites entitle for the said room/suite.
Yet its not always the case.


Like I said in the previous post, if the property genuinely full then elites should accept that no upgrade for them.
However, many cases are hotel pretends to be full even though when we check the Bonvoy apps, it show the hotel still have entire line up of rooms/suites available for the duration of the stay.
In this case, the hotel even breach the already generous terms specified in the t&c.

No one expect the property to go above and beyond what elites should receive.
But to to expect elites to roll over everytime Marriott and their franchisee failed to provide elites with their entitlement is very stupid things to do.

For me this kind of forum does help gathering data about which properties should be avoided.
