The purchase requirement for the free checked bag is waived for the first 3 month.
You get a free baggage subscription for 3 months. All my upcoming trips showed free checked bag after I was approved for my quest card.

To receive this Cardmember benefit, the primary Cardmember must:
  1. Include their MileagePlus number in the reservation
  2. Purchase the tickets with their qualifying United MileagePlus card (the purchase requirement is waived for flights completed during the first 90 days following a new primary Cardmember’s account open date only)
