CLT to Munich, direct or through Dublin - Opinions
I have a flight booked for Charlotte -> Dublin -> Munich in the fall for two people. The Dublin layover is 1h50m. CLT to Dublin is American in Prem. Economy while Dublin to Munich is Aer Lingus (Economy). We may or may not be traveling with a checked bag, that's undecided at this point. I believe this should be a single ticket so we stay airside with just an Immigration/Passport check and if i use a checked bag, it should be checked onto Munich without us having to claim it and recheck. From what I have found, Dublin Airport is considered pretty efficient and 1h50m layover should be okay. I generally like longer layover's but this route was either short or really long ones.
On the other hand, I have the option of changing the outbound flight to a direct shot to Munich on American for $490 per person while keeping the Prem. Economy. The downside is that this flight puts us in Munich almost 4 hours earlier so the Hotel definitely will not be ready (hey I'm cheap and didn't book an extra night). The cost of the flight change would make the overall ticket about the market rate where as my original ticket was one of the cheapest options for the trip.
Since the CLT->DUB flight is seasonal, I cannot easily find the flight history from last year to see how often it is delayed. If we were to miss the Munich flight, I think the later flights out of Dublin would go through London and get us in Munich much later in the day, like 6PM or later.
For the seasoned travelers out there, especially one's how have made a similar trip through Dublin, does anyone have concern with the 1h50m layover? Any strong recommendations to just change to the direct flight?
