I saw checkin options in fact around 26hrs before flights departure. There was scope to select another seat too

Yes, and no problem getting re-fills. Even after meals I had a steady supply of prosecco (St Anna, Spain, Brut)

I inquired at the point where they scan your luggage immediately after immigration and was met by a confused look. Then got told to ask at customs. At customs there was a young chap manning the entrance to the Red channel, and he just pointed me to the green channel. After I insisted that I want to check, he reluctantly let me into the red channel. More confusion there, but thy understood at least why I was there. Then took 15min for a supervisor to appear. I had to show my passport and the drone was taken off me to be collected later before departure (Mavic Pro v1).

On departure I was told I had to clear security first. The down the escalator and turning right, and a further 80m along the corridor is a small door where they keep the goods to be collected. Took about 30min to find it and initially it was closed, but after talking to police (next door down) they found someone to open it. Perhaps no issue to just take it into Qatar, but I didnt want to risk having to explain where it came from on check in security.
