I’ve found it to be a pain in general to use, but I have been able to use it each year, so I find value in it. This is especially true if you book well in advance and have flexibility in terms of various flight options for the day. It’s all relative though—I’d say compared to how hard RUCs are to use, companion certs are a breeze!

My excuse to myself to keep it is that the certificate value covers the Annual Fee to break even and the MQD waiver and SkyClub access are the “free” perks I get.
