The root cause of many of Westjet's problems is staffing. If you have IRROPS for whatever reason you can recover better if you have sufficient staffing on hand. Calgary is their GLOBAL hub and there are many aircraft that overnight in YYC. They could have flown one of those to YQR and back but likely could not as they did not have crews around to do so. All airlines have issues that is for sure and Westjet rescued me from an AC mechanical recently but only because AC protected me on that aircraft the same evening (I know there are no AC options to YQR) and also upon submitting a complaint issued a $300 travel credit in under a month. I think that is a fair and customer focused way to resolve a problem and that's why I remain loyal to AC.
