The thing was, I didn't see them collect any sort of payment from anybody. The FA on the first flight did see my coupon sitting out, and said he would be back to collect it, but he never came back. Who knows?
I've started offering the coupons proactively and they still sometimes won't take it. I'm fine with that vs. hiding the coupon in my pocket hoping they "forget" about it. I'm in no danger of running short of coupons for a long time.
