I stayed at the in terminal Skylight hotel last night.
Here was my experience.
I booked a business class award ticket with Avianca Lifemiles, flying on Ethiopian from Lome to Addis Ababa, arriving at 9:25 p.m., and then flying to Dar Es Salaam this morning at 9:45 a.m.
At check in, I asked about the hotel voucher and they told me it would be given to me at the gate.
At the gate, I handed over my boarding pass, they told me I could board the plane, and then I asked about the voucher and they had a pre-typed and stamped voucher with my name on it that said Skylight. I don't remember if it said in terminal hotel or not. I didn't realize until reading the post by B747-437B that there was both an airside and a landside hotel.
I got off the plane, walked towards immigration/transit, told the Ethiopian Airlines staff in the immigration hall "Skylight" and she wrote down my info and directed me towards transit security. Another staff lady looked at my voucher and asked me "in terminal" and I said yes, and she similarly directed me through the security screening. Then I followed the signs and across from Gate 9 is the path to Skylight airside in terminal hotel.
They checked me in to room B020 it wasnt big but it's modern and well appointed and the window appeared to overlook an empty conference center.
I got a voucher for the dinner buffet (7pm -11:30pm) and one for the breakfast buffet 6-10:30 a.m.
There were a few problems with the room. Upon entering the room, you have to put the key card into the slot to turn on the power, and this triggers the TV to turn on and play rather loud "welcome to the room" music, which was an annoyance.
There was also no TV remote control (I had to find the control buttons on the bottom of TV to turn it off) and no bath towel.
At first I couldn't figure out how to call reception either, as 0,9, 8, 1, 111, etc. didn't work. Then I saw on the key card jacket that the reception phone number was 1000. Each time I called they delivered the remote and then the towel in under two minutes.
In the middle of the night, the power went out momentarily, which triggers the emergency lighting, which is really bright overhead lighting. That lasted a few seconds. Then the pwoer came back on, the lights went off and . . . the newly powered TV turned on blaring the "welcome to the room" music. This happened more than once, I countered it with an eye mask and by unplugging the TV.
And then at 6:30 a.m. really loud announcements and I looked out my window and notice it didn't overlook a conference center, it overlooked a departures hall. The announcements were loud, so loud that it would have been impossible to sleep has I not been awake.
So maybe ask for a room on the quiet side of the building, if they have one.
