I know Moorea quite well and these hotels. Neither are remotely in the luxury class and recent reports suggest the Hilton is looking rather tired nowadays. There are also drawbacks to the Hilton - the small beach is heavily compromised by overwater bungalows and there are too many rooms for what is a fairly small property. The big plus about the Hilton is the excellent snorkelling right off the OWBs and the scenic location. Those towering peaks are all around you. It was originally a Sheraton, by the way. The Sofitel's main appeal is the long beach which is a rarity on Moorea. There is also a dramatic view across the Sea of the Moon towards Tahiti. To be perfectly frank, and I speak as someone who has been to FP many times, I would stay in Tahiti at the newly renovated Hilton, rent a car, drive around Tahiti itself which is incredibly beautiful, and take the rental car on the ferry to Moorea for a day.

As far as Bora Bora is concerned, I would personally avoid the FS and the St Regis and all their man-made beaches, lagoons etc. You can see row after row of overwater bungalows at several hotels from these places. An aesthetic and environmental disaster. Instead, take a look at Le Bora Bora, formerly the Pearl, under the same ownership as The Brando. It has had a recent, extensive make-over, is alone on its motu and has by far the best view of any hotel there.

June should be a good month, out of the kiddie season, dry and sunny, though the winds can rip through those Bora Bora hotels especially.
